My first reaction on seeing this was "Aaagh!! Mary, don't sit on the camera!!" :)
Seriously, though, you're right; it's not easy to get a good picture of your own back. One approach I've seen some people try is standing with their back to a mirror, and aiming the camera over the shoulder.
Once upon a time I lived in the deep south. Then I moved to Chicago. You want your white picket fence, I want to climb over it and play in your sprinkler.

i'm aware of that approach, but i'm a bit past the reflection-in-the-mirror shot. i'm trying to be a little classier than myspace.
